Steve Jenkins, P.E., received his Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering at Utah State University in 1985. As an employee at the Utah Department of Transportation, he worked in roadway design, transportation planning, materials, research and hydraulics.
For the past twenty-five years, Jenkins has taught gravel roads coursework in ten western states and has been involved with local and tribal governments. He also participated in two research projects on gravel roads stabilization. Publications include the Montana Association of County Road Supervisors Motor Grader Operator’s Handbook, 1992. He revised and edited this handbook in 1995. In 2000, he rewrote the book to include more information about materials titling this third edition Gravel Roads, Part II, Back to the Basics. The content from this handbook provided necessary text for lead author Ken Skorseth and the Federal Highways Administration to publish Gravel Roads, Design and Maintenance, which is now used in gravel road courses across the United States.
